Nylon, also called as Polyamide (PA), which means the general term for thermoplastic polyesters containing repeating amide groups -[-NHCO-]- in its molecular structure. PA include aliphatic polyamides, aromatic polyamides, etc. Among them, Aliphatic polyamides with the most widely varieties , the largest output and the most common applications. The most common types of them in the market are nylon 6 and nylon 66, which account for more than 90% of the world's nylon productions.

Nylon fiber was the first synthetic fiber ever invented in the world.

DuPont achieve the industrial production of nylon 66 in 1939 at first, the textile industry had taken on a new look with the invention of nylon. After decades of unremitting efforts and research, the nylon fibers have been widely used in civil textiles, industrial cord fabrics, tire skeleton materials, ropes, conveyor belts and other areas.

 

Applications of Nylon fibers :

The most outgoing advantage of nylon is its excellent abrasive resistance, which is 10 times better than that of cotton and 20 times better than that of wool. Adding some polyamide fibers in the blended fabric can greatly improve its abrasive resistance. Market demand for Nylon66 civilian fiber is mainly reflected in textile products. Such as fiber socks, underwear, gym suits, casual wear, ski shirts, and swimwear etc.

Nylon fiber material has the advantages of high strength and impact resistance, which can be well adapted to various work scenarios, especially in some environments with high load and poor use conditions, this advantage is even more obvious. For example, it can be used to produce cords, industrial fabrics, cables, conveyor belts, tents, fishing nets and other products.

In addition, the carpet woven with nylon has the advantages of bright color, high resilience, strong and durable, which is very popular in the market.

 

Obviously, nylon is an excellent fiber material, but due to its highly polar chemical structure, it is highly hygroscopic and has poor dimensional stability, but these defects can be improved by modification.

  1、Glass fiber reinforced PA: Adding 30% glass fiber to PA can significantly improve the mechanical properties, dimensional stability, heat resistance and aging resistance of PA.

 2、Weatherability PA: Generally, it is solved by adding UV Absorber such as carbon black or UV absorber to nylon. The combination of UV Absorber and Light Stabilizer can further improve the long-term Weatherability of products.

  3、Flame retardant PA: With the development of the economy, people's safety awareness is getting stronger and stronger, flame retardant properties of nylon materials have been put forward higher requirements in the market. Halogan free flame retardant nylon and compound type flame retardant nylon fibers are the potential development trends in the future.
