According to the principle of formaldehyde removal agent can be roughly divided into three categories: catalytic decomposition; oxidative decomposition; neutralization reaction.

 

Oxidative decomposition is the use of strong oxidants to decompose formaldehyde for the purpose of formaldehyde removal. The common component is chlorine dioxide, but it should be noted that the reaction between chlorine dioxide and formaldehyde will generate hydrochloric acid, which can have an impact on human health and the home environment when the concentration reaches a certain level.

 

Catalytic decomposition utilizes catalysts to break down organic pollutants. Commonly known as titanium dioxide (TiO₂) or photocatalyst, which has certain environmental requirements for effective operation.

Neutralization reactions utilize amino acid compounds to break down formaldehyde into nitrogen-containing compounds and water. The reaction process does not produce volatile substances, avoiding secondary pollution, while also solving the problem of free formaldehyde.

OMNISTAB® FS7002 adopts the principle of amino acid formaldehyde removal, which is currently the most environmentally friendly method for formaldehyde removal. An important field with strict requirements for aldehyde substances in industry is polyurethane foam sponge. The production of aldehydes in sponges is not mainly due to the introduction of raw materials, but mainly comes from the chemical structure changes of acidic substances during the foaming process, which leads to the production of aldehydes. Therefore, it is difficult to control the content of aldehydes in sponges through raw materials. OMNISTAB® FS7001 formaldehyde remover has a low viscosity and can be used alone or added to polyether polyols. It can react chemically with aldehydes such as formaldehyde, acetaldehyde, isobutyraldehyde, etc. during polyurethane foaming and later storage, thereby reducing the content of aldehydes in the product and reducing its odor. At the same time, it has no effect on the foaming time, mechanical properties, and foaming morphology of the sponge, making it an ideal sponge formaldehyde remover.
