紫外线吸收剂是一种光稳定剂，能选择性地强烈吸收对聚合物有害的太阳光及荧光光源中的紫外线部分，而本身具有高耐光性的有机化合物。按其结构可分为水杨酸酯类、二苯甲酮类、苯并三唑类、取代丙烯腈类、三嗪类等,由于实用的光稳定剂还需同时满足多方面其他性能要求，因此工业上应用最多的为二苯甲酮类和苯并三唑等类型的邻羟基芳香化合物。邻羟基芳香化合物紫外线吸收剂可形成分子内氢键螯合环，其耐光性来自于他们能通过非常快速的激发态分子内质子转移和高效无辐射去活过程进行可逆酚式-醌式互变异构转换循环，从而有效的将激发能转化为无害的热能。
