OMNISTAB AO-80 is a member of the gas-fume resistant anti-yellowing antioxidant family. Its exceptional anti-aging performance and color stability stem from its unique molecular structure!

 

AO-80 is an asymmetric hindered phenolic antioxidant. Compared with traditional fully hindered phenolic antioxidants (both R1 and R2 are tert-butyl), the alkyl groups in the structure of AO-80 not only provide protection for phenolic hydroxyl groups but also reduce steric hindrance. Therefore, its ability to capture free radicals is enhanced and its anti-aging efficiency is improved.

 

Moreover, due to the relatively low steric hindrance around the phenolic hydroxyl groups of AO-80, the nitro substitution reaction at the intermediate position is easy to achieve, effectively solving the problem of yellowing caused by NOx gas fumigation. However, traditional symmetrical hindered phenolic antioxidants have a relatively large steric hindrance of the phenolic hydroxyl group, and nitro substitution occurs at the para position, which makes it easy to obtain p-nitro compounds with different coloration. This is why the problem of phenolic yellow is difficult to solve.

As can be seen from the test data in the polyolefin formula below, compared with other hindered phenolic antioxidants, OMNISTAB AO-80 has excellent thermal stability. It is less likely to have the problem of fumigation yellowing under the influence of NOx, and can continuously provide excellent anti-thermal oxidation aging protection for the material during high-temperature processing and use, maintaining the initial color of the material. In addition, when OMNISTAB® AO-80 is used in combination with high-molecular sulfur antioxidants, it has an excellent synergistic effect. For instance, OMNISTAB® AN800 and OMNISTAB® AN802 can provide better heat aging resistance. OMNISTAB® AO-80 is suitable for most plastics, polyolefins and various elastomers, etc., especially for PE, PP, PA, PUR and POM.
