What’s the Rubber sealant?

The rubber sealant is a kind of sealing material which used rubber as main substrate, it is generally produced by mixing processes with additives such as softener, curing agent, reinforcing filler, antioxidant. Rubber sealants are widely used in the sealing and bonding of machinery, instruments, building components and automobile parts to prevent the intrusion of external dust, water and gas into the internal mechanism, so as to achieve the purpose of waterproof, sealing, sound insulation, insulation and buffer.

 

Minor difference between rubber sealants and adhesives:

While adhesive is used to create a bond between two different or similar materials, sealant is used to create an impenetrable barrier to gas or moisture.

Main types of rubber sealants:

²Butyl rubber sealant

Butyl rubber sealant is made of isobutylene polymer, which is considered best for strongest bond, and is generally used to fill in concrete and metal. It has excellent weather aging resistance, heat resistance, acid and alkaline resistance and good electrical insulation properties. Butyl sealant is widely used in all kinds of machinery, glass installation, cable joints and other construction area.

²Silicone rubber sealant:

Silicone rubber sealant could be used in a wide temperature range 65 ~ 250. At the same time, it has excellent weather aging resistance and electrical insulation performance. It is especially suitable for elastic bonding with strict temperature requirements, such as electronic components, appliances, refrigeration equipment, automobile, etc.

²Polysulfide sealant

The molecular weight of liquid polysulfide rubber is about 1000-5000 g/mol. It has a variety of end groups (such as hydroxyl, halogen, amide, etc.), which provide a small molding shrinkage. Polysulfide rubber sealant has good oil&chemical resistance, soft insulation. Currently, it is widely used as sealing material in civil engineering, automobile industry. And it can also be applied in all kinds of oil tank, fuel tank, composite glass seal.

²Chloroprene rubber sealant

Chloroprene sealant has strong initial bonding strength and high cost-effective. Its mainly used for sealing of wood, aluminum and plastic, but it is not suitable for polystyrene foam materials.
