How to maintain the high performance of coatings?

ØWhat is coating? Whats it made of?

Coating is a kind of liquid or solid material which could be cured on the object surface under certain conditions to act protection, decoration or other special functions (such as insulation, rust, mildew, heat resistance, etc.).

Coatings generally consist of four basic components: Resin or emulsion, pigments, solvents and additives.

ØMain coating types and applications:

1. Polyurethane coating has good glossy, water resistance and wear resistance, which is widely used in high-end wood furniture area and can also be cured on metal surfaces.

2. The main film-forming material of acrylic coating is acrylic co-polymerization emulsion. It is mainly used in interior or exterior wall painting, leather painting, and floor lacquer.

3. Epoxy paint is a kind of two-component coating, which is composed of epoxy resin and polyamide curing agent. Its mainly applied in metal anti-corrosion and automobile primer coating.

4. Unsaturated polyester coating is a kind of multi-component coating, which is a thick lacquer made of polyester resin as the main film forming substance. Its mainly used for high-end furniture coating and floor lacquer.

ØWhy does coating occur discoloring and cracking? How to solve this problem?

Degradation is always due to thermal oxidation or UV radiation. Thermal oxidation is mainly caused by oxygen or ozone. It can occur at room or high temperatures. Under these conditions, antioxidants can reduce thermal oxidation and the formation of peroxy free radicals, to prevent the formation of colored groups and the deterioration of coating performance.

Generally, hindered phenolic antioxidants are used as main antioxidants. Phosphate esters are used as auxiliary antioxidants. Hindered phenolic antioxidants can react with free radicals to inhibit further formation of free radicals. Phosphite ester antioxidant can decompose hydroperoxide. When main antioxidant and auxiliary antioxidant are used together in coatings, the service life and weather resistance will be further improved.

 

ØOMNISTAB SOLUTIONS FOR COATING:

OMNISTAB AN626 is a phosphite ester antioxidant, which mainly used in powder coatings.
