OMNISTAB® AN6132--high-efficiency and eco-friendly phosphite antioxidant for PVC

Phosphite antioxidants are the backbone of auxiliary antioxidants, which can convert hydroperoxide ROOH into radical-free, unreactive and thermally stable product. It can also well protect color of the system. In addition, it can increase the processing temperature of the polymer, and has a good synergistic effect when combined with hindered phenolic antioxidants and light stabilizers.

It is generally believed that phosphite is mainly used in PVC for chelation, without obvious stabilizing effect when used alone. But with metal soap, it can be complexed with metal chlorides, improving heat resistance, weather resistance and transparency. It can also be used with organotin and epoxy compounds to create synergistic effects.

 

Phosphite can work on the stability of PVC in different ways: (1) capture the hydrogen chloride released from PVC degradation and inhibit of its autocatalytic effect; (2) replace the unstable allyl chloride atoms in PVC molecules to inhibit dehydrochlorination; (3) passivate harmful metal ions; (4) antioxidant effect; (5) inhibit free radicals. In addition, phosphite also has a good effect on improving the transparency of PVC plastics containing lead salts, barium salts and calcium salts.

 

There are many types of phosphite, including diaryl esters, dialkyl esters, di (alkylated aryl) esters, alkyl-aryl mixed esters and so on. The main phosphite commonly used in PVC are as follows: triphenyl phosphite (TPP), diisodecyl phosphite (PDDP), trnonyl phenyl phosphite (TNPP), bisphenol A phosphite (1500) and so on.

However, with the development of the industry, there are more and more environmental protection requirements and the restrictions on the use of nonylphenol, bisphenol A and free phenol are getting stricter and stricter. Most of traditional phosphite  are synthesized with triphenyl phosphite as the base material, which inevitably residues of free phenol and bisphenol A. In order to meet the market demand, phenol-free phosphite antioxidants stand out.

 

As a phenol-free and environment-friendly trialkylphosphate antioxidant, OMNISTAB® AN6132 can be used as an effective thermal stabilizer for polymers such as polyolefin (films, pipes, plates, wires and cables), ABS (appliance housing, automotive parts, building materials, packaging), polyurethane (foam materials, elastomers, leather, footwear, etc.), terephthalate, etc. It can also be used as lubricant to improve antioxidant, anti-wear properties and extreme pressure resistance of products. As an efficient auxiliary stabilizer and chelating agent for hard and soft PVC materials, it can effectively improve their processing thermal stability and light stability. Moreover, it can effectively improve the resistance of the polymer to gas fading in many applications. For reference, the recommended dosage is 0.1 to 2.0%.
