On January 23, 2024, the European Chemicals Agency (ECHA) announced the 30th SVHC list for authorization, adding 5 new substances to the list, including 2,4,6-tri-tert-butylphenol (2,4,6-TTBP), 2-(2H-benzotriazol-2-yl)-4-(1,1,3,3-tetramethylbutyl)phenol (UV-329), 2-(dimethylamino)-2-[(4-methylphenyl)methyl]-1-[4-(morpholin-4-yl)phenyl]butan-1-one, 2-(5-chloro-2H-benzotriazol-2-yl)-6-(1,1-dimethylethyl)-4-methyl-phenol (UV-326), and Oligomerisation and alkylation reaction products of 2-phenylpropene and phenol. The SVHC list now contains 240 entries of substances. In addition, for the substance Dibutyl phthalate (DBP), endocrine disrupting properties for the environment are added to its intrinsic properties. (Article 57f - Environment).
UV 326 is kind of benzotriazole UV absorber with the dual function of light stabilizer and antioxidant. It can absorb 270-380nm of UV light, with a peak absorption of 353nm. UV326 has become the “influencer” in UV absorbers with good compatibility, low volatility, good thermal stability, high absorption efficiency, no reaction with metal ions, and not forming colored substances. However, UV326 being added to SVHC list makes many companies have to adjust their formulations and search for new UV absorbers to meet the requirements of the REACH regulation.
On customer's request, our company is also actively developing new solutions. Through great efforts of our R & D team, the replacement of UV326 has came out ----OMNISTAB UV6160, which is in line with REACH regulations. OMNISTAB UV6160 can absorb 300-400nm of UV light, and has good compatibility with many resins. It can be used in both industrial and cosmetic products. The most important is it has the almost identical absorption spectrum with UV326 so that it can meet the replacement requirements of most formulations with UV326. It has solved the "urgent needs" of many customers once launched.
