According to the different wavelengths, the Ultra Violet in sunlight can be divided into three wavebands:UV-A(400-315nm),UV-B (315-280nm) and UV-C (280-180nm).The ultraviolet rays in the UV-C of the three wavebands are mostly absorbed by carbon dioxide in the atmosphere , so it’s difficult for them to reach the ground.The results show that the UV radiation in UV-A is less harmful than that in UV-B, and the UV radiation in UV-B cannot be effectively absorbed by the atmosphere.Therefore , the key of ultraviolet ray protection is to protect the UV-A and UV-B wavebands.

The UV absorbers is most commonly used for protection against UV radiation,which absorb the ultraviolet and transfer the energy,then release or consume the energy in the form of heat or by harmless low-energy radiation.According to the different chemical structures,ultraviolet absorbers can be divided into Salicylates, Benzophenones, Benzotriazoles and Triazines , etc.Salicylates have been applied and developed earlier,but they are easy to sublimate and has the tendency to turn the products yellow under strong light irradiation, so it is seldom used at present.Triazine UV absorbers are newly developed in recent years. Compared with Benzopyrone and Benzotriazole UV absorbers, they have better light stability, more difficult surface migration, high absorption performance, broad spectrum, low volatility, good dispersion and have been applied in plastics, coatings, cosmetics and other industries.

OMNISTAB UV1577 is almost no absorption of visible light above 400nm and has a low color, so it can be used in transparent or light-colored materials without coloring problems.According to the high molecular weight, it has a excellent processing stability.Compared with Benzotriazole UV absorbers,Triazines have stronger UV absorption performance in the range of 300-380 nm waveband.At present, UV1577 has a good effect in the application of polycarbonate and polyester.It can also be used in polymer blends and filled or flame retardant compounds because of the excellent compatibility.

The following figure shows the UV absorption spectrum of OMNISTAB UV1577 in trichloromethane:

 

From this spectrum, it can be clearly seen that UV1577 has strong absorption of the light in the range of UV-A and UV-B (280-400nm), showing better absorption performance of UV radiation.Thus, the damage of polymer products in UV radiation can be greatly reduced and the service life of polymer products can be extended effectively.

Hindered Amines Free Radical Scavengers are commonly used light stabilizers for polymers, such as OMNISTAB LS123, OMNISTAB LS292 and so on.If the synergy of triazine UV absorbers and hindered amines is reasonably used in the polymer,good synergistic effect will be produced.
