The absorption mechanism of triazines UV absorbers is based on two parts:
1. The conjugated π-electron architecture of the compound
2. The structure capable of hydrogen migration.
An intramolecular hydrogen bond can be formed between the ortho - position hydroxyl group on the benzene ring and the nitrogen atoms on the adjacent triazine ring to form a hexatomic ring, and the hexatomic ring forms a conjugated system with the surrounding structure. The energy required to open the chelate ring is just close to the Ultraviolet energy in the range of UV A and UV B. When the molecule itself absorbs UV light, the molecular energy increases and the weakest N-H bond in the hexatomic ring breaks. The absorbed energy is released in the form of heat, fluorescence or phosphorescent, which is harmless to the polymer material, and the molecular structure recovers, thus absorbing a large amount of UV light repeatedly and protecting the polymer.

Compared with OMNISTAB UV1577, the R1, R2, R3 and R4 of OMNISTAB UV1164 are all CH3 instead of H, and the substituent group of R5 has a longer molecular chain, which means that the OMNISTAB UV1164 has a larger molecular weight and better low volatility. The difference in substitution group also makes UV1164 applicable to a relatively wide range, including nylon, PVC, PET, PBT, ABS and PMMA and other high-performance plastic products.
